To achieve the near-sunlight readability effect with ATM6448C-NLW-FBD, AZ Displays uses a method of “active” sunlight readability enhancement performed at its state-of-the-art Class 100 clean room facility in California. This technique, which involves adding LED lamps to the backlight and increasing the backlight output to 700 cd/m2 (nits), is superior to in-cell transflective color LCDs from competitors (because transflective TFT displays are limited only to small sizes of up to 4” in diagonal and offer a reduced color saturation) and superior to “passive” enhancement methods (via brightness-increasing and glare-reducing films, also offered by our organization).

AZ Displays, Inc., announces another color LCD screens readable in direct sunlight with the super-bright 1K-nit digital TFT LCDs of 3.5" diagonal p/n's ATM3224K-NLW-FBD and ATM6448B-NLW-FBH. Features include:

• 3.5" sunlight readable TFT LCD panels
• 1000 (typ) cd/m2 brightness
• Digital RGB interface
• Pixel resolution of 320x234 (QVGA) or 640x480 (VGA)Approx. Overall Size 84.25 x 65.24 x 5.8 mm
• Approx. Viewing Area 75.00 x 55.56 mm
• Operating temperature -0 C to +60 C, storage temperature -20 C to +70 C
• 1.3W (typ at 11.5V, 110mA) power consumption for white LED backlight

• Despite their high brightness, the LED backlight of both ATM3224K-NLW-FBD and ATM6448B-NLW-FBH operates with rather modest power consumption of 1.3W (typ) at 11.5V, 110mA. With an additional anti-glare treatment (optionally available from AZ Displays), the LCD screen may be fixed to a lower brightness.

ATM3224K-NLW-FBD, QVGA version, features "Stripe" pixel configuration of color filter. The LCD module supports either digital 8-bit serial, 24-bit parallel RGB, or CCIR601/656 data input modes. The special WV "wide view" film found among the layers of ATM3224K-NLW-FBD's surface ensures a super-wide viewing cone of 120 degrees in horizontal axis and 80 degrees in vertical direction.

ATM6448B-NLW-FBH, VGA version, features "Delta" pixel configuration of color filter. As in case of the lower resolution version, this model can easily be interfaced via a flex connector to a user's ZIF socket. The total viewing angles of ATM6448B-NLW-FBH are 90 degrees in horizontal axis and 50 degrees in vertical direction.
